Eliza McCardle was conceived in 1810 and wedded Andrew Johnson in 1827. The couple set up a tailorshop and brought up five youngsters before Andrew swung to legislative issues. After Lincoln's death made her First Lady, Eliza left most social obligations to her little girl while she revamped the White House and battled with ailment. Amid her spouse's denunciation, Eliza was a steady guide.
Eliza Johnson Early life and marriage
Born at Telford, Tennessee, the main offspring of John McCardle, a shoemaker, and Sarah Phillips-McCardle, Eliza lost her dad when she was still a little youngster. She was raised by her widowed mother in Greeneville, Tennessee. One day in September 1826, Eliza was talking with cohorts from Rhea Academy when she spotted Andrew Johnson and his family maneuver into town with every one of their things. They in a split second took a getting a kick out of the chance to one another. Andrew Johnson,18, wedded Eliza McCardle,16, on May 17, 1827, at the home of the spouse's mom in Greeneville. Mordecai Lincoln, a far off relative of Abraham Lincoln, directed the ceremony.

At 16, Eliza Johnson wedded at a more youthful age than whatever other First Lady. She was somewhat tall and had hazel eyes, cocoa hair and a decent figure. She was preferable instructed over Johnson, who at this point had scarcely taught himself to peruse and spell a bit. Johnson attributed his wife for showing him to do number juggling and to compose, as he had never gone to class. She mentored him quietly, while he toiled in his tailorshop. She regularly read out loud to him.
